This was the first year that our organisation were host to two Health and Social Care industry placements from South Derbyshire and Burton College. As part of the placement student Lucy Walker designed and led on our “Growing Together” project.
Growing Together is a community gardening project, designed and developed in partnership with students from Burton and South Derbyshire College and funded by Veolia. This project has been created in the form of a garden in order to enrich the families within the community. This will provide a space to support and engage the families in the planting of vegetables and flowers along with creating crafts for the garden. It will also mean that families will be brought together in the community by educating them on the benefits and methods of growing fresh produce to eat as part of a balanced diet. Children will also have opportunities to learn about the environment around them and wildlife by creating bug hotels and bird feeders using recycled materials like plastic bottles.
