East Staffordshire Family Support Service/Harvey Girls/Dads4Dads, who are based in Burton on Trent, are celebrating after being awarded Million Hours funding from the National Lottery Community Fund.
The Million Hours Fund is a £19 million joint investment between The National Lottery Community Fund and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport to deliver over a million additional hours of youth work in areas with high rates of anti-social behaviour. It gives young people more places to go and positive things to do. Following their success in being granted this funding the charity has now opened a Youth Group at their Horninglow Office and at Beyond Black Belt mixed martial arts academy in the town centre.
The Eton area of Horninglow has been identified as experiencing high levels of inequality, vulnerability and poor outcomes with a lack of youth provision and limited opportunities for young people. The project will offer these young people, the opportunity to meet in a safe space where they can engage in purposeful and fun activities whilst accessing support and building friendships.
At these groups young people are able to engage in activities that improve their confidence, self-esteem and overall well-being. The project hopes that it will give young people a better sense of belonging in the community and clearer ambitions for their futures.
Ian North, Chief Executive Officer, said: ‘We can now expand our offer to include supporting our local young people. Our Youth Work will bring young people together in a safe space where they can be fully supported to fulfil their potential. Thanks to the government and The National Lottery Community Fund for making this possible.’
The Youth Groups are running every Tuesday from 5pm – 6:30pm in Horninglow and every Friday, from 4pm to 7pm from Beyond Black Belt in the town centre. Places are currently limited and need to be booked in advance by scanning the QR code below. The Youth Groups are being fully supported by the Charity’s team and are underpinned by the National Youth Work Curriculum.
